In Hong Kong we stayed in the Las Vegas Guest House on Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui district, for 34 Euros a night.
We were close to the Riverbank, close to Kowloon, 2 minutes walk from a well connected underground line, and good restaurants are reachable by foot. An ideal location to explore Hong Kong from.
The entrance to the rooms is located at the very back (Section C) of the Chungking Mansions a collection of vendor stalls (Only the ground floor) and guest houses (All 16 floors) in one large apartment block. There’s also an Indian restaurant on the third floor, if I remember correctly.
There is two elevators, one stopping at all even floors, one at all uneven. There is also a staircase, although we tried to take that out onto the street one night and we ended up in a backyard and had to double back, the staircase isn’t very clean and isn’t supposed to be used by guests I think.
The Location was by far the best thing about this place, and the only thing I would rate as “Very good”
The rooms were extremely tiny, they included a bed, a nightstand/mini-fridge and a shower cabin sized bathroom/shower cabin. The bed was about 1,30 x 1,70 m making the room about 1,70 x 3,50 m. The fit was extremely tight when you wanted to get dressed and the entire bathroom was soaked after someone showered. In addition to that we had a fishy stench coming from the shower drain at one point.
The door also opened to the inside (Which made sense as the hall outside was quite narrow) but it made it very difficult to step outside without have to step into the shower room (and potentially get your socks wet).
The free water dispenser was in the hallway outside the rooms and was always available.
The bathroom was quite tight but it had a liquid soap and shower dispenser a (useless) towel rack (towel would have been soaked) a toilet under the shower head and a small sink next to that. There was a mirror, which had condensation on it 70 % of the time.
Regarding cleanliness theres not much to complain about. The sheets and towels were clean. The bed was comfortable enough and for a single person stay in Hong Kong for a few (no more that 4) nights the room would have been perfectly fine.
Since we were two people I got a quite frustrated claustrophobic vibe on the fourth evening and, though I was sad to be leaving Hong Kong, I was glad to be leaving the Las Vegas Guest House.
