Viola Royal Hotel

In Hanoi we stayed in the Viola Royal Hotel. This is an accommodation located in Old Quarter, therefore most sights are reachable on foot.

The room is fairly spacious, the bathroom is modern and clean. The bed is very comfortable. There are some dogs somewhere nearby that you can hear bark but they are usually quiet at night time. I only heard them because I spent two days in the room.

The amenities offered include water, tea, coffee, a tea kettle, toothbrush, shower gel/shampoo/cap, towels and a minibar. You can get an umbrella at the reception incase it rains.

The service was very good and the breakfast was yummy, however it didn’t have many vegetarian options and would get repetitive during a longer stay. There is no restaurant but that doesn’t matter because there are many great ones nearby. (see my Vietnam-Cuisine blogpost)

The Hotel includes a spa that we didn’t use and offers an airport shuttle service. You can also book Halong Bay tours with them, and on the overnight tours they will check you out and refund the nights you didn’t stay at the hotel. We didn’t get to do this because I was ill.

The only major downside was that the window faced a wall, drastically limiting the amount of daylight entering the room.

Dream City Hotel

The basic room at the Dream City Hotel in Hoi An was decently sized and the location was a ten minute walk from Ancient Town. There were plenty of restaurants and cafes close by or on the way to ancient town.

The room had a balcony and a modern bathroom. The amenities included bathroom essentials, flipflops, umbrellas, a minibar and water.

The service was impersonal and basic; yet totally sufficient. The hotel did offer breakfast, however we always had breakfast elsewhere.

The Hotel was clean and the stay was comfortable. It was quiet enough to get a good nights sleep. There is a bike rental and an airport shuttle to Da Nang Airport, as well as a small pool. (It was too cold to swim during our stay)
